Mark Hewko specializes in photo documenting cultural identities within the United States. He has covered stories from American Indians on Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota to independent motels owned by South Asian-Americans. The motel photos are part of an ongoing series known as the 'Arch Motel Project'. His work has appeared in numerous U.S. publications such as the Village Voice and has been exhibited widely throughout New York City and Washington DC. A portion of photographs from the Arch Motel Project are currently on view at the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History in Washington DC and will travel throughout the U.S. for the next 5 years. In 2013, he was a 'Travel Portrait' winner in Photo District News magazine and in 2009 a 'People Portrait' finalist for the Masters Cup of Photography. Mark is currently documenting Ukrainian Churches in the anthracite coal region of Eastern Pennsylvania.
